El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a dead body found in Socorro Sunday afternoon.
The man’s body was discovered in a canal, located in the 900 block of Socorro Road, around 3:00 p.m.
Deputies closed off Socorro Road near Isaiah Drive as part of the investigation.
The victim has been identified as Javier Gonzales, of Socorro. Authorities say he lived in the 7800 block of Isaac, just minutes from where his body was located.
Officials have not released any additional information in the case and have not said whether Gonzalez’ death was suspicious. The case is still under investigation.
Gonzalez’ family told ElPasoProud.com that he had been missing from his home since Thursday.
