The Hidalgo County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating two possible arson case involving two churches that were set on fire.
On Friday, July 10th, at around 6 a.m., the Monte Alto Fire Department responded to two church fires, in Hargill.
The First Baptist Church, located west of FM 493, and Out Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, located at the corner of Couch Avenue and 4th Street were both set on fire at around the same time. Firefighters were able to put out the fire but sustained significant damages. Evidence at the scene indicates to investigators that the fires were set intentionally.
Fire investigators are asking for the public’s help for information on the case by calling the Hidalgo County Fire Marshal’s Office at 956-318-2656 or at the Crime Stoppers hotline at 956-687-8477.
