Saturday the West Texas Camaro Club invites the Lubbock community to help veteran Julian Barraza mow lawns for free.
In June, EverythingLubbock.com did a profile on Julian Barraza, a U.S. Marine veteran who decided to start mowing the lawns of Lubbock’s needy for free.
Shortly after our story was published, Barraza said help started rolling in. He said he had several pieces of lawn equipment and was able to purchase a heavy-duty edger with money from his GoFundMe Page.
Friday, he returned to the house in South Lubbock, on Lynnhaven Avenue, where his journey all began.
“This was the very first house I was able to do,” Barraza said. “She was at work and I just showed up and started doing it. She was trying to pay me & what not. And I was like you know what that’s not my mission, I am here to do a favor and be on my way. [Later] she sent me a pretty lengthy appreciation letter. To make a long story short it was well worth it.”
Barraza encourages the entire Lubbock community to help on Saturday.
“Heck yeah!” Barraza said. “I mean if I was in a desperate need financially, physically or whatever mentally-yeah definitely I would like someone to help me out.’
If you would like to volunteer to mow, Barraza said to meet him and the WTCC Saturday July 11th at United on 50th and Avenue Q at 3 pm. United will donate gas, so volunteers just have to bring their lawn mowers.
If you would like to get on the list for your lawn to mow, there is still time. Send your name, address and phone number to Julian Barraza at (806) 831-3112.
