The City of Abilene broke an all-time daily rainfall record Tuesday, the National Weather Service in San Angelo reported.

As of 1:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, 7.06″ of rain has fallen at Abilene Regional Airport, breaking the old single daily record of 6.54″ on May 11, 1928.

The Abilene Fire Department has been busy all morning responding the water rescues, accidents, and heavy flooding.

Abilene residents are being encouraged to avoid flood prone areas and stay at home.

Numerous roadways in Abilene, Taylor County and across the Big Country are closed due to flooding.
