The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is informing the public that commercial driver license (CDL) transactions – including originals, renewals, duplicates or changes – will be unavailable starting at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 2, due to a planned nationwide update by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators to the Commercial Driver License Information System (CDLIS). Commercial driver license services will resume on at noon Monday, July 6. Commercial driver license services in all states will be impacted. All other driver license services will still be available.
Please note: Commercial driving tests previously scheduled for July 3 will be honored, but final completion will be delayed until CDLIS returns to service July 6.
CDLIS is a nationwide system that enables state driver licensing agencies to complete required procedures related to issuing an original, renewal or modification of a commercial driver license. States are required by federal law to use CDLIS in order to exchange essential information regarding commercial drivers, traffic convictions and disqualifications.
