Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that Eric Gutierrez, age 32, of Clovis, NM, pleaded guilty today [Thursday] to Attempted Murder, a second degree felony; two counts of Assault With Intent to Commit a Violent Felony Upon a Peace Officer, second degree felonies; and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
In December of 2013, Clovis Police officers responded to a call to remove a subject from a home because he was acting crazy and being violent. After officers knocked on the bedroom door of Eric Gutierrez, they were sprayed with gunfire from inside of the room. The officers suffered minor injuries. The SWAT team was activated and a stand-off ensued for almost six hours before taking Gutierrez into custody.
The Honorable Drew D. Tatum presided over plea hearing and ordered that a pre-sentence report be completed and that sentencing will be scheduled for a later date.
Gutierrez faces a minimum of 19 years to a maximum of 40 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections.
