NOTE: Darene Brooks claimed all along he was innocent. On 3/21/2016 the charge of attempted aggravated kidnapping against him was dropped for insufficient evidence according to court records.

LUBBOCK, TX (PRESS RELEASE) — This [Tuesday] afternoon at approximately 3:04 p.m., we received a call to the Stripes Convenience Store located at 202 50th Street in reference to a child abduction. When officers arrived, they located a 12 year old female hiding in the bathroom who was claiming to have been abducted earlier today.

When the suspect stopped at the Stripes, she managed to run away from him and hide in the bathroom. She was transported to UMC for a medical screening.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6 foot tall, 220 pounds, wearing a black shirt with white writing, black shorts, black shoes and black mid-calf socks. He was driving a white 4 door passenger car with after-market chrome wheels.
