KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 4.10.19.
TODAY: Both a RED FLAG WARNING and a HIGH WIND WARNING is in place for the region today. Winds will pick up through the afternoon, and become sustained up to 40-50 mph with gusts 60-70 mph. This may cause structural damage, power outages, and blowing dust. Winds will likely peak after school and through the dinner hours. Any sparks that catch grass on fire may lead to a dangerous and rapidly developing wildfire. Outdoor burning is not advised today! Temperatures will be quite warm today still, to the upper 70s to upper 80s on the Caprock, and 90s east of the Caprock.
TOMORROW: Thursday a cold front arrives in the early morning and keeps highs to the mid 60s. Winds will still be breezy in the morning, but taper off in the afternoon. The sky will be partly cloudy.
THIS WEEKEND: Friday will be in the 60s with partly cloudy conditions. Starting Friday night, showers increase across the South Plains. Saturday brings a 40% chance of rain, starting in the morning and moving east through the day. Temperatures will be cool Saturday, in the 50s. A light freeze is possible Sunday morning and then highs will climb back to seasonable, in the 70s.
