More children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder could benefit from behavior therapy, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The agency said preschoolers should get psychological services before doctors prescribe medicine. Experts said learning and practicing behavior therapy requires more time, effort and resources than treating ADHD with medicine but research shows the benefits last longer.
Researchers from the University of Iowa have found the risk of diarrhea in kids increases when several families in low income areas share bathrooms. The study tracked more than 20,000 children around the world under the age of five. Diarrhea kills about three-quarters of a million young kids every year.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said at least 30% of antibiotics prescribed in the United States are unnecessary. Researchers found doctors offered antibiotics to people with respiratory conditions caused by viruses that don’t respond to antibiotics, including the common cold, viral sore throats, bronchitis and sinus and ear infections.
