A Lubbock family involved in a hit-and-run said the other driver should be held responsible.

Stephanie Guerrero said a woman crashed into them as they drove near the 6000 block of Slide Road. Their son Shaun, who was twelve days old at the time, was in the car with them.

“We had just left his two-week appointment, and we were going to get something to eat,” Guerrero said. “We were driving northbound on Slide Road, and she pulled out and jumped across three lanes.”

Guerrero said her husband was able to swerve out of the way so that the woman only hit the tail end of their car.

“We told her to pull into the mall parking lot because we were in the turning lane to get into the mall, and she said ‘okay’ she grabbed her bumper, she put her bumper in her vehicle, we pulled into the mall parking lot and she did a U-Turn and went southbound on Slide Road and just left the scene,” Guerrero said.

Lubbock Police have asked the public for information on the unidentified suspect. A surveillance photo of that woman has been attached to this article.

LPD described her vehicle as a dark SUV with a roof rack. The car may also have a sun roof.

“I was shocked honestly. A little bit of disbelief. I couldn’t believe we had just gotten into an accident,” said Guerrero’s husband Patrick. He had advice for anyone else involved in a hit-and-run.

“Obviously check and make sure everybody’s alright. Get their information immediately,” he said. “At least take a picture of their plates. That would help to track them down, if nothing else.”

“Just immediately take pictures. Take pictures of your car, take pictures of your car, take pictures of their car. Take pictures of them. Take pictures of their plate. Everybody has their phone nowadays,” Guerrero said.

“I’m glad that we’re all okay, but she caused over $2,000 in damage to our car. We just had a newborn, that’s an expense that we don’t need. So we definitely want her to take responsibility for it. She’s responsible for it. She clearly hit us,” she said. “[Our son] could have been hurt, we could have been hurt. And she just left. That’s not right.”

Police have asked anyone with information on the suspect to call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000. Callers may remain anonymous.
