We’re nearing the final quarter of the high school basketball season,  that’s the time when the Levelland Lobos thrive.

What do I mean by that? They know how to close.

So far in the postseason, they’ve been involved in tight battles, but once that 4th quarter hits, this team lights it up. In their past two games the Lobos have outscored opponents 51-27 in the final quarter.

“That’s something that has developed as the season has come to a close,” head coach Jeff Bontrager said. “Our last game of the season we had a quarter like that and we had the same thing with Pampa in the bi-district game. We kind of talked about it at halftime of the Seminole game and it ended up happening that way.

“So I think going into this game with Lamesa, it was three games in a row we’ve had a strong 4th quarter and once guys start to get a belief system going about something, I think it’s a lot easier for it to carry through. Fortunately that happened for us against Lamesa also.”
