Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson and Jody Arrington, former aide to President Bush, appeared to be headed for a runoff election after the Super Tuesday – March 1 Republican Primary results for Congress in District 19.

At 9:51 p.m., it was almost a three-way tie between Robertson, Arrington and Michael Bob Starr in the district-wide results. But later in the night, it was clear that Robertson and Arrington left Starr behind.

Because no candidate earned more than 50 percent of the vote, the race goes into a runoff with the top two candidates on May 24.

The two biggest population centers in District 19 are Lubbock and Abilene.

Glen Robertson made the following statement Tuesday evening:

I want to thank all of my staff and supporters for the incredible job that they have done to secure us a spot in a runoff. I would also like to thank everyone that turned out in record numbers to vote. And I would be remiss if I didn’t thank all of the other candidates in this race, I appreciate and respect anyone willing to put their name on the ballot. I am looking forward to the next three months of campaigning and I am honored to have earned a spot in the runoff. Thanks again to everyone that has helped in so many ways to make sure that West Texas and the Big Country gets the best possible representation possible.
