The Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department has a lot of work that they continue to do throughout the year, as part of maintenance to the parks. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is also discussing projects they would like to see done in future budgets at the city’s parks.

Bridget Faulkenberry is the director of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. She said currently, the department has a few projects that are already on-going.

Faulkenberry said three parks (Ratliff, Smith and Hinojosa) are getting new pavilions put in their parks.

She said Clapp and Simmons parks are getting new playground equipment installed.

Earlier this week, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board met to start talking about projects they want to try to get funded for the upcoming budget.

Some of those possible projects include improvements to the city pools. Faulkenberry said those projects could include a slide at one pool, a splash pad at another, and climbing walls at all the city pools.

“Most of our swimming pools were built in the 50’s, and we have maintained them the best we can over the years, but we feel there are some improvements that could be made to the safety and the fun of the pools,” Faulkenberry said.

Another project the board is interested in is possibly adding a nature trail in McAlister Park.
