As tons of Texas Tech fans get there tickets for the Final Four, one Tech fan in particular has waited a long time for this moment.

Ed Smith, 90, said he has bought his ticket to the Final Four, and is set to fly out on Friday. He said this is the best he’s ever seen them play.

According to Texas Tech athletics, he is currently Texas Tech’s oldest season ticket holder.

“It was Bedlam here in Carillon,” Smith said. “It looked like we were really having a party because we were slightly excited.”

Residents at Carillon Senior Life Care Community say being a fan for Texas Tech is not a choice, it’s a lifestyle.

“My children had the option to go to any school they wanted, so long as it’s Tech,” Smith said. “My mother graduated from Tech, my aunts went there, all of my cousins too.”

When Texas Tech beat Gonzaga to advance to the Final Four, Ed Smith said he booked his ticket immediately. He said he wants to be there when his school makes history.

“We are suddenly the elite in the country,” Smith said. “They can’t say we are just a little country college out here now that we are playing with the big boys.”
