The Abilene Police Department arranged a proper burial for a baby who was killed after she was born inside an Abilene home on January 18, 2016.

The baby, who police say was named Ashley, was buried at a City of Abilene cemetery near North 10th and Cottonwood Street during a private ceremony Wednesday afternoon.

A small white casket was donated by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, a headstone was donated by Grace Monument, and the Abilene Police Officer’s Association paid for the burial plot.

None of the organizations wanted recognition for their donations, but BigCountryHomepage is choosing to acknowledge their generosity.

These donated items were used during the service to put Baby Ashley to rest. Members of the Abilene Police Department were present to pay their respects.

Baby Ashley was killed after sustaining several ‘sharp force injuries’ after she was born, according to the preliminary autopsy report.

Police executed a search warrant on a home on the 400 block of South 25th Street and found her body dumped in a trash can inside.

An arrest report reveals the mother, Amber Craker, 18, admitted to police that she caused ‘obvious injury’ to the baby before placing it in the trash can.

She and her boyfriend Damian Cate, 22, were both arrested and charged with 1st Degree Murder and Tampering with/Fabricating Physical Evidence in connection to this homicide. Cate’s arrest report says he told police he held the baby while Craker caused the ‘obvious injury’.

Cate and Craker are being held in the Taylor County Jail on charges totaling $300,000.

Cate’s lawyer claims his client has “disabilities from mental retardation” and “may be influenced to say things that are not accurate.”

Craker and her lawyer have refused to release any statements.
