The City of Lubbock on Tuesday demonstrated water treatment equipment and provided information about water safety. Lubbock has three water treatment facilities. Two deal with filtering surface water, and one is for ground water.
The North Water Treatment Plant has water from Lake Meredith and the Roberts County Well Field that come into that facility for treatment.
Director of Water Utilities Aubrey Spear said the city, on average, uses about 35 million gallons of water a day. The city has a variety of water sources to deal with the supply the city needs.
As the water comes into the treatment site, it’s monitored and tested constantly.
“As you have seen, we’re continuously monitoring and taking samples out in the system to make sure that we don’t have any contaminants that would be harmful,” Spear said.
He said he encourages any customers to call if they think there are any issues with their water at home.
“The message that we have, I think, is that the City of Lubbock’s water is safe, and we’ve shown you all that we do in order to keep it safe, and will continue to do,” Spear said. “So we feel very good about the water that we’re delivering, and not only do we have enough water to get out to everyone, but we also have the quality of water in such that there should not be any worries.”
