Five homes have been destroyed in a wildfire near the Callahan County community of Eula, the Texas A&M Forest Service reported Sunday morning.
The “High Line Fire” is believed to have sparked Saturday morning from an electrical pole on County Road 224, according to the Callahan County Sheriff’s Office
Residents south of Eula were evacuated late Saturday morning due to the fire. Those evacuation orders were lifted around 9:30 p.m., allowing residents to return to their homes.
According to the Texas Interagency Coordination Center website, the fire was 100-percent contained and had burned 642 acres as of late Sunday afternoon.
The Eula, Clyde, Baird and Potosi Volunteer Fire Departments, the Abilene Fire Department and the Texas A&M Forest Service have been battling the fire.
One person was transported to the hospital due to smoke inhalation Saturday, according to the Callahan County Sheriff’s Office.
Fire crews are still working Sunday afternoon to control the fire and keep hot spots from igniting. An obstacle fire crews are mindful of is a likely wind shift out of the northwest later in the day as a cold front moves into the Big Country.
