The No. 17 ranked Texas Tech women’s tennis team tallied back-to-back Saturday wins over No. 30 Fresno State (4-3) and Abilene Christian (5-0) in a windy doubleheader at McLeod Tennis Center. With the two team victories today, the Lady Raiders improve to 4-0 on the year.
 
“We competed hard today but it wasn’t one of our better efforts,” Texas Tech head coach Todd Petty said. “Against Fresno State, we dropped the doubles point and put ourselves in a hole early and had to battle back. With the wind, we didn’t have ideal tennis conditions today. I thought we actually played better overall tennis in the second match against Abilene Christian.”
 
The Lady Raiders rallied from behind to defeat Fresno State 4-3 in the morning match. The visiting Bulldogs earned a 1-0 lead by claiming two of the three doubles points, but Texas Tech answered with four straight singles wins to claim the victory. Tech’s Sabrina Federici registered a 6-0, 6-2 win over Fresno State’s Emma Wilson at No. 5 singles, Lynn Kiro followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over FSU’S Sophie Watts at No. 2, Sarah Dvorak earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over FSU’s Rana Sherif Ahmed and Felicity Maltby gave Tech its team win with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over FSU’s Anneka Watts at No. 6 singles.
 
“Lynn (Kiro) really had a great win this morning,” Petty said. “She’s been working hard on her game and she beat a really good player today, a player who was ranked in the top-30 last year. Sarah (Dvorak) and Sabrina (Federici) continue to be our sparkplugs. They continue to carry us in singles.”
 
In the afternoon match, Tech swept Abilene Christian 5-0 for its fourth win on the year. The Lady Raiders won the two doubles matches, then Katelyn Jackson, Maltby, Federici and Dvorak all followed with singles wins.
 
Next weekend, Texas Tech will travel to Madison, Wis. to compete in the ITA National Indoor Championships.
