In honor of his big 13th birthday, Brenden Baker decided to forego presents and instead ask his friends and family to do something else.

Each year is a milestone for Brenden and his family, so turning thirteen is a big deal.

“When he was first born we weren’t sure that he would make it to the 13th birthday, in fact we weren’t sure that he would make it more than a couple days, but he’s been in relatively good help for the past 12 years and then this year the doctors had to put him on oxygen,” said Brenden’s grandfather, Bruce Bachman.

Brenden has Dubuque Syndrome, not even 100 people in the world have it, and the Children’s Miracle Network has been with Brenden every step of the way.

“On Saturday, the 30th, I want to do a Scooby Doo party,” Brenden said. He wants the birthday party to raise funds for the organization that continues to help him.

Brenden’s got high hopes of making it to $150,000.

The original goal was $200 but he keeps surpassing it, so why not shoot for the stars? his dad and a family friend say that’s how he’s always been, “he faces life full force, nothing really gets in his way, and if it does, it better look out because he’s fixing to come over it,” says Brenden’s father Chris Baker.

“It doesn’t matter if they’re little bitty kids or old folks, he has a way to inspire everybody and it’s just a celebration to have someone who may be small in stature but he’s all big in heart,” says friend of the family, Keith Sproles.

Brenden says that every cent counts, and that he’s looking forward to presenting a check to the children’s miracle network.

Brenden will be raising funds until February 5th on his gofund me page, https://www.gofundme.com/brendenbaker

After February 5th, he plans to start over and raise funds throughout the year to reach his ultimate goal.
