A State District Court Judge, William R. Eichman II, reduced bond Friday for Jordan Michael Nokes, 25, of Lubbock. Nokes resigned from Lubbock ISD as a Coronado High School coach after he was confronted with allegations of a sexual relationship with a student.
Nokes was arrested on January 22. His attorney requested a bond reduction.
In court on Friday, the judge determined that Nokes was not a flight risk, and so the bond was reduced from $100,000 to $50,000 with conditions.
Nokes was ordered to have a GPS monitor, no contact with the student, no contact with any non-relative under the age of 18, and he was ordered to stay at least 1,000 feet away from any primary or secondary school.
He was ordered to observe a curfew between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am, and he must check in weekly with pre-trial services. He was allowed to reside in Lubbock, Potter or Randall counties.
Nokes was also ordered to deactivate all social media accounts and be subjected to random drug testing.
The mother of the student testified in Nokes’ favor Friday. She testified that she did not think Nokes was a danger to her daughter. She also testified that she didn’t know about the sexual relationship until Lubbock ISD Police brought it to her attention in mid-January.
It was revealed in court that Nokes is accused of having the sexual relationship with the student prior to her reaching the age of 17.
Regardless of age, teachers are forbidden under state law from having sex with students.
As of Friday afternoon, Nokes was still held in the Lubbock County Detention Center.
