Dove-winning gospel group Ernie Haase and Signature Sound will make their second appearance in 20 months at Wayland Baptist University’s Harral Auditorium on Thursday, January 28th, but this time they’ll have two new folks with them.

J. Mark McVey, who has performed more than 3,000 times as Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables,” joins EHSS to present “Inspiration of Broadway,” featuring some of the greatest musical hits.

Also, baritone Dustin Doyle replaced Doug Anderson in June of 2015. In addition to Haase, a former member of the Cathedrals who is regarded as one of the best tenors in Gospel music, members of Signature Sound – known for their variety, showmanship and high energy – are lead singer Devin McGlamery and bass Paul Harkey. Tyler Vestal is the pianist and David Griffith plays bass guitar.

Harkey, who grew up in Petersburg before graduating from Plainview High School and Wayland Baptist University, sang with the Anchormen and the LeFevres before joining Signature Sound. His rendition of “Old Man River” is one of the highlights of the show.

Among the other hits in Thursday night’s performance are “Climb Every Mountain,” “You”ll Never Walk Alone,” “Sunrise, Sunset,”  “I Got the Sun in the Morning,” and McVey’s stirring “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miserables.”

The performance is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 28th in Wayland’s Harral Auditorium, located at Sixth and Utica. Doors will open at 6. Tickets are available at the Trinity Building, 9th and Utica (north entrance), Happy State Bank, by e-mail at andrewsd@wbu.edu, by phone at 291-3603 and at the door.

J. Mark McVey made his Broadway debut in ‘Les Miserables’ after having won the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Actor while on tour. He also was the first American to perform the role in London’s West End. He reprised the role with the Los Angeles Philharmonic to sold-out crowds at the Hollywood Bowl and again for the 25th Anniversary Tour of Les Miserables where he won the Ovation Award and the BroadwayWorld.com Award on his way to eclipsing 3,268 performances in “Les Mis.”

McVey made his Carnegie Hall Debut with Marvin Hamlisch and continues to perform with numerous symphonies around the country and the world. He has starred in numerous Broadway, Off-Broadway and television productions. He earned a double-platinum record for his participation on the Trans-Siberian Orchestra CD, “The Lost Christmas Eve.”  He has three solo CDs and a family CD of Christmas music.

Proceeds from the concert, sponsored by the Association of Former Students, primarily benefit Wayland’s general scholarship fund.
