Over the last few years, Wolfforth has grown. Mayor Charles Addington said the city’s population is currently at about 4,200 people, and could reach 5,000 in the next few years.

“Do I see us getting to 5,000 probably in the next two to three years? Absolutely.,” Addington said. “Is that beneficial for us? And the answer is yes, because when we hit 5,000 populous, we have the ability to annex properties. Right now we have to be asked to come into the city.”

He said they are currently seeing a lot of residential growth.

“We’ve had some fantastic growth residential, and hopefully in the next little bit, we’re going to have some growth commercially,” he said.

Addington said as they are continuing to grow, the city is looking ahead to make sure they can keep up with it.

“We’re trying to not just concentrate on what’s today, but what’s down the road, and what’s in the future, so that we stay ahead of the growth,” he said.

Having more commercial properties could be helpful to the city, as well, according to Addington.

“The problem comes, is that we rely heavily on property tax and we need to be able to change that for the constituents and the people of Wolfforth and get that sales tax revenue coming in and not only having the conveniences of having those businesses here, but have the sales tax that come off those businesses help us in providing for the city of Wolfforth and not rely so heavily on sales tax,” Addington said.

He said he’s also excited to see where the city goes.

“I’m proud of this city, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, I think we have plenty of room to be able to continue to grow, we have plenty of work to do to make it better,” he said.
