National Signing Day is now under two weeks away, and the current Texas Tech class is big in size and number.
Tech’s current class, according to Rivals.com, features only two of the 26 committed future Red Raiders are under six feet tall. The Red Raider offense was led by two wide receivers listed as five-foot-ten or smaller in 2015.
It’s safe to say the Red Raider nation won’t be seeing that anymore on Saturdays.
“I think the memo for pretty much every offense is they have to have a big guy on the outside that they can throw to…and I feel like tech has lacked that, ever since Eric Ward graduated, and even Darrin Moore graduated in 2012,” said RedRaiderSports.com’s Will McKay. “A guy like [Derrick] Willies who is coming in as an early enrollee, was arguably the best outside receiver in the country, he’s a 6-4, 6-5 guy, and they you have a couple high school guys, a guy like TJ Vasher — who is a 6-5, 6-6 guy.”
“So i think that they are really trying to find a guy on the outside who they can rely on, because it has really been an inside receiver show the last few years,” said McKay.
Texas Tech has also pulled ahead of the University of Texas in terms of recruiting class ranking for 2016, and McKay says that could be a trend that repeats itself for some time to come.
