On Monday, January 11, 2016 at approximately 6:45 p.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a hit and run crash with injuries involving an LSO police vehicle at 8900 Milwaukee Ave. The LSO Deputy, Ryan Burns, was traveling southbound on Milwaukee Ave when a white 2011 Chevy Silverado traveling northbound turned left in front of Deputy Burns and the vehicles collided.
In the initial investigation, information provided to the responding officers identified the driver of the Chevy Silverado as Richard Bradley and that he had fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival. Mr. Bradley was later located in Abernathy by LSO Deputies. There was enough probable cause to arrest Mr. Bradley and he was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Facility by LSO Deputies.
On Tuesday, January 12, 2016 the case was turned over to the LPD Accident Investigation Team for follow-up. The subsequent investigation and evidence revealed that Mr. Bradley was not the driver of the vehicle that collided with Deputy Burns.
As the investigation was progressing, the accident investigator and the District Attorney’s Office worked together to facilitate the release of Mr. Bradley. He was released from the Lubbock County Detention Facility on Thursday, January 14, 2016 and all charges against him related to this case have been dismissed.
This is still an active investigation. Accident Investigators are pursuing new leads in an attempt to identify the driver of the vehicle that struck Deputy Burns.
The Lubbock Police Department urges anyone with information about this case to call Crime Line at 741-1000.
