A lucky El Pasoan is now a millionaire and possibly a multi-millionaire following last night’s Powerball drawing. According to the Powerball Lottery, a $1 million winning ticket was sold right at the 7-Eleven at Lomaland and Gateway in East El Paso. Though it wasn’t the grand prize, I’m sure anyone would be ecstatic with a million bucks.

Everyone had their sight set on the $900-million prize but not one person hit the perfect combination. However, one El Pasoan hit five of the six! Winning him or her $1 million, $ 2 million if they paid the extra dollar and played the “Power play.”

“Well, I think it’s kind of cool that someone won it in El Paso, you know we see these big jackpots but it doesn’t hit home,” said Paul Garrido, Powerball Player.

Only three Texans hit the second prize and according to Powerball, two played the “Power play.” Players we caught up with outside this winning 7-Eleven say they think this store is lucky!

“This morning, I saw that and El Paso has luck so I decided to come up here and see how much luck El Paso has,” said Alberto Gamez, Powerball Player.

Alberto Gamez traveled from Juarez to get in the running for the jackpot.

“How lucky, lucky for some people to experience winning extra money,” said Gamez.

No customer expects to win but they say the opportunity is too good to pass up.

“I don’t really buy a ticket expecting to win, if I do great, if not well, it’s business as usual,” said Garrido.

Since no one won last night, the jackpot is now at $1.3 billion dollars, the largest lottery prize in world history. That drawing is Wednesday night.
