Lubbock Police on Friday publicly identified the victim and the shooter after a deadly incident the night before.  Police were called to the 700 block of 78th Street at about 9:00 p.m. 

According to jail records, April Elizabeth Hanson, 37, was held in the Lubbock County Detention Center for murder.  Police said she shot and killed her husband, Matthew Leigh Hanson.

Lubbock Police issued the following statement on Friday morning: 

On Thursday, February 28, 2019, Officers from the Bureau of Operations responded to the scene of a dead body call at 706 78th St. Upon arrival, officers learned that this was a domestic violence case and that April Elizabeth Hanson, 37, had shot her husband, Matthew Leigh Hanson with a handgun.

Matthew Leigh Hanson was transported to UMC by EMS where he later died. April Hanson was arrested and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center and booked on a murder charge.

Investigators from the Lubbock Metro Special Crimes Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
