Sporadic power outages and damage were reported on Saturday in Lubbock and across South and Rolling Plains due to high winds.

Emergency services around the region said the wind knocked down power poles and causing some minor damage to homes.

There were also several reports of trampolines being blown out of back yards and into roadways.

Lubbock Power & Light said tree limbs came into contact with electrical lines, causing outages in their service area. Crews worked to repair equipment and restore service.

A downed power pole forced the Lubbock Police Department  to close the South Loop 289 westbound access road between Quaker Avenue and Slide Road during the noon hour.

The closure and resulting detours caused traffic backups in the affected area.

Repairs were completed and traffic returned to normal by mid-afternoon.

North-south oriented highways across the South and Rolling Plains were affected by a strong crosswind.

An 18-wheeler was blown off Interstate 27 just south of New Deal near County Road 5800. This accident was reported around 12:15 p.m. We have not heard of any injuries in this accident. The truck was blown over into the median.

The Lubbock Police is reminding drivers they should treat intersections as a 4-way stop if the traffic signals are flashing red.

Widespread blowing dust reduced visibility across the region.

A High Wind Warning was in effect for most of the day.

Many TTU-West Texas Mesonet sites across the area recorded wind gusts between 55 and 65 miles per hour.

Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport reported a wind gust on Saturday of 62 miles per hour.
