IRVING, Texas – Texas Tech men’s tennis player Parker Wynn has been selected as the Big 12 Player of the Week for his efforts against No. 3 Mississippi State and No. 19 Tulane.
This is Wynn’s first selection as Big 12 Player of the Week and Tech’s second of the season, as he joins fellow teammate Tommy Mylnikov in netting the achievement.
Wynn went a perfect 4-0 across singles and doubles play against the top competition in the country, racking up three wins against nationally ranked opponents along the way.
The tandem of Wynn and Bjorn Thomson, who were recently ranked no. 14 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division 1 rankings, extended their winning streak to four matches by defeating the No. 34 ranked doubles team from Mississippi State, followed by a 6-4 win over their competitors from Tulane.
In singles play, he began his weekend with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win over the no. 66 ranked player on Friday. He would follow that performance by dominating his no. 42 ranked opponent from the Green Wave by a 6-1, 6-2 margin.
Wynn is now 6-1 on the year in singles competition and 3-0 in his last three matches.
Texas Tech will return to action at the annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala. on Feb. 22.
