LUBBOCK, Texas — Haley Perez, 13, has been fighting cancer for the past five years and her family is hoping to give her a quinceañera style birthday party.
Her father Raul Perez said the family has been been coordinating the celebration for Easter Sunday, but they were told by Haley’s doctor that they should move the party up to an earlier date.
“I guess we lost our battle. We found out that 20 percent of kids, pediatric cancer kids don’t make it and my daughter falls in that 20 percent,”he said.
Despite all of the trials and tribulations, they say Haley always keeps a bright spirit.
“She’s spunky and she’s outgoing. She’s sassy and she’s very very positive,” said her mother Krystal.
Her family has set up a GoFundMe to raise money for her pre-quinceañera.
They are also throwing a brisket fundraiser on Saturday February 1 at Garza’s and Ramos’ Barbershop at 114 University Avenue. The fundraiser will start at 11:00 a.m. and will run until they run out, according to a flyer.
