City of Lubbock reports 8 new coronavirus cases, 31 total

LUBBOCK, Texas — The City of Lubbock announced eight additional cases of COVID-19 Friday.

With the added cases, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Lubbock stands at 31.

Six of the cases are connected to the Whisperwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. One is a resident.

A quarantine order was placed on the facility by the city in order to stop the spread of the virus. According to the city, staff will not be able to move from one facility to another and will only be able to go from the facility to their homes.

90 tests are still pending in the city, according to city officials.

Mayor Dan Pope said there were five people in in-patient facilities in the city with COVID-19.

City of Lubbock Confirms Additional Cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The City of Lubbock has confirmed four additional cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) as of 4:00 p.m. on March 27, 2020. The total number of cases in Lubbock County is 31. In addition to the reported Lubbock cases, the Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting additional cases in the South Plains including Hockley County (5), Terry County (3), and Gaines County (1), Hale (1), Yoakum (1). The City of Lubbock Health Department and other response agencies are prepared and have employed standard response plans designed to address and resolve public health issues. The Department will continue monitoring individuals as indicated by the CDC. The Department’s disease surveillance team will continue working diligently to ensure the public remains at a low risk of contracting COVID-19.

The City of Lubbock Health Department and our health care partners will continue to monitor COVID-19 in the Lubbock area to prepare for the possibility of more local cases. Please continue to follow proper hygiene recommendations and social distancing practices.

Special note: Hockley County reported two more cases (for a total of 7) that were not yet reflected by the City of Lubbock’s statement on Friday.

SPECIAL NOTE: The City of Lubbock press release above said Yoakum County had a confirmed case. The Department of State Health Services also previously said Yoakum County had a confirmed case. However, on Saturday the state removed Yoakum County from the list of confirmed cases and EverythingLubbock.com was able to confer with the South Plains Health District by phone. There are, as of Saturday evening, no confirmed cases in Yoakum County.
