Fiestas del Llano, Inc., who is the founding organization for the celebration of ‘El Diez y Sies de Septiembre,’ will once again hold its annual celebration Fiestas Patrias in Lubbock.  Fiestas Patrias is a celebration that exists as a remembrance of Mexico’s Independence from Spain. 

All events are free!

The celebration will begin on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 10:00 a.m. 

The Parade will start at Broadway & Avenue V traveling east on Broadway up to Avenue M and then turn north up toward eastside of the Civic Center parking lot. All non-profit organizations, schools, any type of clubs, athletic teams, businesses, political groups, politicians are encouraged to participate in the parade. Fiesta Patrias main celebration will begin at noon on Saturday, Sept. 15 at LHUCA Plaza, Outdoor Stage, located at 511 Ave K. Entertainment will consist of local bands including traditional Mariachi groups and Folklorico dancers. There will be food vendors, food trucks, and a children’s area. Grito de Dolores ceremony will take place Saturday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Miguel Levario, TTU History Professor and candidate for Congress-District 19, as our guest.  This ceremony is the reenactment of Father Hidalgo’s declaration of Independence from Spain. 

Scholarship opportunity-Fiestas del Llano, Inc. is proud to offer TWO scholarships to any individual that is pursuing a higher education. The organization wants to promote the importance of education by providing assistance for individuals that are committed to enriching their community through education. The scholarship is open to any Senior in High School or College/University student. Recipients of Scholarships must meet the entrance requirements of that University or College, otherwise will not be eligible for the appropriate scholarship funds. A female and a male will be selected for the scholarships. Those interested will have to answer the required questions in essay form. Contact Zenaida for the essay questions.
