Detectives with the Lubbock Police Department Crimes Against Children Unit are investigating an attempted kidnapping reported Tuesday night in south Lubbock.
Around 8:30 p.m. on September 11th, LPD officers responded to the 7200 block of Avenue W after a Hispanic male reportedly tried to abduct a 15-year-old girl. Officers were advised the teenager was walking in the area while talking on her phone when a male grabbed her from behind, wrapping one arm around her body and using the other hand to cover her mouth.
Neighbors heard the teen scream and came outside. The suspect then let the teen go, got into a pickup truck and fled the area. The neighbors walked the teen back to her home and police were notified.
Responding officers began interviewing witnesses and gathering information about the incident. The possible suspect description was broadcast to patrol officers, but the suspect was not located.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male approximately 5’03” and was wearing athletic shorts, a t-shirt and grey and white tennis shoes at the time of the incident. The vehicle he was seen getting into was a dark colored GMC, possibly a Sierra pickup truck.
