Police are investigating a possible homicide in Lamesa.

Human skeletal remains were discovered Saturday June 29, in an area four miles northwest of Lamesa.

Dawson County Sheriff’s Department said the remains were reported by a farmer who was working on his field near County Road G.

Sheriff Kent Parchman tells us the remains were immediately taken to Lubbock for an autopsy where it has been determined they are those of a female.

Parchman said the skeletal remains were found in a shallow grave in the middle of the farm, leading investigators to believe the female was a victim of homicide.

The sheriff’s department was not able to release any other information at this time.

Parchman said it could take months before they are able to identify who the remains are of.
