The Villa Town Motel burned to the ground three months ago and the mess is left behind. City leaders told EverythingLubbock.com that it’s up to the property owner to clean up the mess but nearby business owners are tired of waiting.

All that remains are piles of bricks, broken bottles, and a lot of ash.

“Well there’s a big pile of garbage,” said waiter and manager-in-training at Copper Caboose, Robert Hollie. “We want it gone as fast as possible,” he said.

Three months ago, a new owner bought Villa Town Motel, promising to fix up the crime hot spot. “He sold us a dream that he was going to do big things over here,” Hollie said. “Right now we’re not seeing anything.”

Just days later the place went up in flames.

“Basically since it burned down, we haven’t seen any action or movement since those first few days,” he said.

And now the Copper Caboose said it’s affecting their business, all while the restaurant is trying to rebrand to entice new customers.

“Even on our Google reviews, we’ve seen they don’t want to come here because of what’s next door to us. We don’t want to be associated with what happened over there or what’s going on over there,” Hollie said.

We reached out to the owners for a comment on what they plan to do with the property but did not receive a call back.
