Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a fire at a building at 66th Street and Avenue R just before 4:30 a.m.
Four engines, one truck, and two battalion chiefs responded to the scene.
LFR said the building was a vacant apartment and no one was injured.
Several hours after the fire, LFR provided the following statement:
Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to 6127 Ave R for an apartment building on fire. Upon arrival crews found fire ensuing from the first and second story windows of the quadraplex. A defensive position was set up due to structure stability and the fact that the apartments were vacant. Lubbock Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate the cause of the fire and it is still under investigation.
