Short Term Forecast:
*** Heat Advisory for Borden County, Dawson County, Gaines County, Garza County, Crosby County, Terry County, Lynn County, Lubbock County and Scurry County until 8:00 PM Wednesday. ***
Hot weather will continue to impact the South Plains and the Rolling Plains on this Thursday. We broke a record high on Wednesday and we’re expected to break another record high today in Lubbock. Highs today will be around 105° around the area. Expect sunny to mostly sunny conditions today. We’ll be clear to mostly clear this evening and tonight. Lows will drop into the lower and middle 70s. It will be a little hotter Friday with highs around 106° with a few spots even hotter.
Extended Forecast:
The hot weather will continue across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains through Saturday. Highs will be in the triple digit Thursday and Friday. We’ll drop back into the upper 90s on Saturday. We’ll have a decent cool down on Sunday with highs falling back into the lower 90s. The cool down won’t last long. We’ll quickly jump back into the middle and upper 90s on Monday and back into the triple-digits by Tuesday and Wednesday.
Overnight lows will be stay on the warm side with lower to middle 70s expect the next few mornings. We’ll drop back into the middle 60s by Sunday and Monday morning. We’ll warm back into the lower 70s by Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
We’ll mention the chance for an isolated thunderstorm Friday PM, Sunday PM and Monday PM across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. Rain chances are only about 10-percent at this point.
Drought Update:
Below is the updated U.S. Drought Monitor for the South Plains and the Rolling Plains (as of May 31). Most of the area dropped back to severe stage drought status. However, areas that didn’t receive as much rain the last couple of weeks remain extreme to exception status.
