A local sophomore and her family will worry a little less about covering the cost of college thanks to a wisdom teeth extraction program.

Harley Nokes, a 17-year-old who attends Talkington School for Young Women Leaders, had her wisdom teeth pulled Friday morning for free through the Wisdom for Wisdom program.

Hill & Ioppolo Oral and Facial Surgeons completed the procedure.

Nokes said she filled out an application and wrote an essay to explain why the extraction would benefit her. Her father said he thought of his daughter as soon as he heard of the program, and it is helping the family save an “exorbitant amount of money.”

“I was pretty excited. I’m sure my parents were more excited because they don’t have to pay for it,” Nokes said with a laugh.

With the saved money, Nokes said she plans to pay for textbooks for her dual credit classes.

Doctors said they were impressed with Nokes’ academic drive and goals.

She said she wants to study at Texas Tech before transferring to Texas A&M to earn an aerospace engineering degree.

Dr. Ioppolo said he knows firsthand how expensive the cost of college can be, so they wanted to ensure wisdom teeth extraction was not a hindrance to a deserving student like Nokes.
