On Friday, the Department of Public Safety hosted the grand opening of the Texas Anti-Gang Center at the Lubbock DPS Regional Office.

The Lubbock TAG Center is one of six across the state, according to DPS. It is funded through the Texas Governor’s Office.

Although the grand opening was hosted Friday, the center originally opened in January.

Since then, multiple law enforcement agencies at the center have successfully collaborated to deter gang-related criminal activity, according to DPS. The center allows these agencies to strategically render gangs ineffective.

“Fifty-seven felonies, 57 felony arrests in four and a half months, 109 misdemeanor arrests, they’ve identified 309 people who have had outstanding warrants, we’re cleaning up the streets.  Sixty-six new gang members have been identified by this new team, five firearms and over $60,000,” DPS Commander Gary Albus said.

The center serves 15 counties in the region.
