2018 All Saints Episcopal School graduates earn $5.3 million in scholarships

After earning a record-breaking $5.3 million in merit scholarships, 24 seniors received their diplomas Sunday evening from All Saints Episcopal School in a Commencement Exercise memorable for many reasons.

Not only is the graduation a milestone in the lives of the 24 graduates; it is also the school’s third graduation and Headmaster Bruce Latta’s first commencement exercise as the head of the school. The 24 graduates of the Class of 2018 garnered a record breaking number of merit scholarships with the total number earned of scholarships topping $5.3 million and acceptance into 69 universities.
Commencement Exercises began at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20 in Patriot Gym on the All Saints Episcopal School campus. Graduation began for the 24 seniors with Baccalaureate Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Jones Gym and ended Sunday night with Project Graduation, an all-night party.

Chosen to speak by the graduating class, former All Saints Headmaster Dr. Mike Bennett presented the Commencement Address. Seniors Natalie Chaudhuri and Ava Ilaria Moran also spoke.

Natalie Chaudhuri is the class valedictorian while Sarah Elizabeth Going is the class salutatorian.

Valedictorian Natalie Chaudhuri’s cumulative grade point average is 4.8767. She is the daughter of Dr. Kallol Chaudhuri and Dr. Swapna Chaduhuri. Chaudhuri will attend Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. next fall. While at Georgetown, she will be enrolled in the Walsh School of Foreign Service. Chaudhuri’s future interests include Journalism, Law or Politics. She was recently named as the recipient of the All Saints Men and Women of Character Award. Chaudhuri was also named as a National Merit Finalist. She was accepted to the following universities: Amherst University, Cornell University, Georgetown University, Rice University, The University of Texas at Austin, University of North Carolina, University of Virginia, and William and Mary.

At All Saints, Chaudhuri is captain of the Debate Team, treasurer of the Student Council, and founder of the school’s Merkati literary magazine. She is a member of the Varsity Mock Trial Team, and High School Band. Chaudhuri received the school’s highest award – the Proven Patriot Award for Overall Excellence- her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. She recently was awarded a $1,000 Plains Capital Bank Scholarship. Chaudhuri has been enrolled at All Saints since the sixth grade.

Salutatorian Sarah Elizabeth Going’s cumulative grade point average is 4.8209. Her parents are Scott Going and Robin Going. She has chosen to attend Southern Methodist University next fall where she will be enrolled in the Cox School of Business and pursue a degree in Finance. Going was named as a National Merit Commended Scholar and was recently named as a recipient of the All Saints Proven Patriot Award and a $20,000 merit scholarship from the prestigious Don & Sybil Harrington Foundation. She enrolled in All Saints her freshman year.

Going is the Senior Class Student Council Representative and is also a member of the Varsity Cheer Team, Mock Trial Team, Varsity Tennis Team, Chemistry Club, National Honor Society, Yearbook Staff, and Band. She received the Phi Beta Kappa High School Academic Excellence Award and the Phi Beta Kappa High School Magna Cum Laude Award. Going is a Chemistry Olympiad Qualifier and received All Saints Student Scholar Awards in Pre-AP Spanish II and Geospatial Technology. She was named to the Headmaster Honor Roll her freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years. Going competes with the TAPPS Academics team in Number Sense, Science, and Mathematics competitions. Going volunteers with the Girl Scouts, the First United Methodist Youth Group, the National Charity League, and the Lubbock Symphony Guild Debutante Program as well as participates in the school’s community service projects, which includes Toys for Tots, Earth Day Clean-Up project, Lubbock Hospice Christmas Party, United Way, South Plains Food Bank, and Lubbock Impact. She participated in the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Lyle School of Engineering Summer Program last summer. She was accepted to Boston College, Southern Methodist University, Texas Tech University and the University of Virginia.

The 24 seniors of the Class of 2018 have been accepted as of May 18 into over 69 universities with projected scholarships thus far totaling approximately $5,293,809.
