Short Term Forecast:
Despite the fact we picked up a little rain across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains Sunday morning, it’s been a active afternoon with the gusty wind, blowing dust and the numerous grass fires. Extremely critical wildfire conditions will continue into the evening, overnight and on Monday across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. We’ll be mostly clear with blowing dust around this evening and tonight. Lows will range from the upper 30s to the middle 40s. We’ll stay windy on Monday, especially during the first half of the day, with some blowing dust during the morning. Otherwise, it’ll be sunny and cooler with highs ranging from the upper 50s to the upper 60s. The wind will start to decrease as we head into Monday evening and Monday night.

Extended Forecast:
We’ll stay windy on Monday, but it’ll be cooler with highs falling back mostly into the lower to middle 60s, with some upper 50s across the far northwestern South Plains. Afternoon highs on Tuesday will warm into the middle and upper 60s. Another round of warmer weather returns for the later half of the week. Highs climb back into the upper 70s on Wednesday and into the middle to upper 80s on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It’ll drop back into the upper 70s to lower 80s by next Sunday.
It’ll be colder Tuesday morning, with lower to middle 30s expected. We’re back into the upper 30s to lower 40s for Wednesday morning. Milder overnight lows will return by the later half of the week and over the weekend. Middle to upper 40s are expected Thursday morning, then lower to middle 50s for Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning.

Forecast models, for the most part, are showing a dry forecast across the South Plains and Rolling Plains for the new work and school week.
Drought Update:
Extreme and severe stage drought conditions continue across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains, according to the latest update of the U.S. Drought Monitor. As of Sunday evening, 0.24″ of rain has fallen, so far, this year in Lubbock.
