An El Paso teen accused of stabbing her newborn baby girl and stashing her in the family’s shed was given a Personal Recognizance bond by El Paso Magistrate Judge James Callan Friday morning.
Erica Gomez, 17, is facing Capital Murder charges associated with the death of her daughter on Feb. 9. Friday, Gomez had a bond hearing in Magistrate court where the judge lowered her initial $800,000 bond to a $250,000 Personal Recognizance Bond.
Gomez will be released from jail with a curfew stating she can not leave her home from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and must report once a week for drug and alcohol screening.
She is accused of giving birth to her daughter in the early morning hours of Feb. 9 at her home in the 13000 block of Frankie Lane in Montana Vista.
About 12 hours later, a witness called 911 to report that a 13-year-old boy located the lifeless body of the infant inside a shed on the property.

An autopsy on the infant showed nine sharp puncture-like wounds that are consistent with stab wounds. Gomez admitted to giving birth to the baby inside a toilet and cutting the umbilical cord with scissors. According to court documents, she also admitted to wrapping the baby in a robe and placing her inside the shed near her home. She did not, however, admit to stabbing the infant.
Additional court dates for Gomez have not yet been set.
