Lubbock City Council approved a proposal to possibly renovate or expand the Memorial Civic Center through a feasibility study.

The Request for Proposals asked for professional consultants to submit a bid to conduct a project to the City. This would include understanding of the services required and analysis of current and future needs of the facility.

Online documents stated the intent of the study is to turn the Civic Center into a first-rate convention/conference center.

Each bid will give their recommendations on renovation details, budget plan, and timeline of construction.

The latest renovations to the facility were in 2015. City officials said new renovations would focus on enhancing the convention center abilities to attract more regional and national organization.

This proposal came about a month after a Civic Center Hotel was presented to City Council during a work session in January. This project has not been approved either, just reviewed as a proposal as well.

Bids may be submitted until March 8.

A city committee will assess each submission and take their recommendation to city council member, who will make the final decision.
