The Texas Department of Public Safety on Thursday released information about a deadly crash that happened Tuesday night in Reeves County.
DPS said two people died and one person was injured.
DPS said a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler were both going north on U.S. Highway 285.
DPS said, “[The pickup truck] failed to control its speed and struck [the 18-wheeler] in the rear.” DPS said the 18-wheeler then crossed into the southbound lanes and hit a second pickup truck.
The driver of the first pickup truck (the one that was going north), Gentry Mitchell, 33, of Conroe died at the scene. A passenger in Mitchell’s truck, Kevin Crosetto, 39, of Spring also died at the scene.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured, according to DPS. The driver of the southbound pickup truck, Aaron L. Gonzalez, 36, of Nueces, suffered “non-incapacitating injuries” and was taken to Reeves County Memorial Hospital in Pecos.
Conditions were dry and clear according to DPS. Everyone mentioned by DPS was wearing a seat belt.
