A 7-year-old girl hospitalized after a fire that killed her father and little sister Friday needs cards and letters to ‘lift her spirits’.
Family members say Emily is recovering in ICU at a Dallas hospital after receiving 4th-degree burns on 30% of her body, leaving her in need of multiple surgeries and skin grafts.
Emily’s loved ones say she’s in a lot of pain and is heartbroken over the loss of her sister, 4-year-old Karleigh.
Anyone who wants to brighten Emily’s day during these dark times is asked to send her a card or a letter, because “she just loves people.”

Just before midnight Friday, Emily’s home on the 200 block of Daughterty Avenue caught fire.
Emily’s father, Kenny Osteen, 32, was able to pull her to safety but went back inside in an attempt to save Karleigh, who family members say was hiding in a closet. Both Kenny and Karleigh were pronounced dead at the scene.
During this time of mourning and recovery, the remaining family members are taking donations to offset their loss. They are in need of the following items:
- Girls size 10-12
- Girls shoes size 3
- Boys size 2t
- Boys shoes size 7
- Women’s size 12 pants
- Women’s shoes size 9
- Sports bra size medium
Donations can be brought to Eastland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 700 S. Ostrom Ave.
Two GoFundMe pages have also been established in memory of Kenny and Karleigh to raise money for their funerals as well as Emily’s ongoing medical bills.
Wednesday, a benefit will take place at the LumberYard Event at 313 W. Main Street beginning at noon to raise money for the families affected by this tragedy. Free hotdogs and trimmings will be served.
Another benefit will be held at Shannon’s Burger Barn in Cisco Saturday – a bake sale with donations going to the family.
The cause of the fatal fire has not been determined. BigCountryHomepage will provide more information on this incident as additional details are released.
