An officer shot and killed a dog Friday morning in the 2900 block of Amherst Street.  Texas DPS officers and a Lubbock Police SWAT team were on hand to carry out a search warrant for narcotics.   The shooting was reported about 10:23 a.m.  The body of the dog was then taken from the scene in a city truck.  

Lubbock Police issued the following statement:

Special investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety requested the assistance of Lubbock Police Department SWAT to serve a criminal search warrant at a home in the 2900 block of Amherst.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. as officers made entry, an aggressive dog threatening officer safety was shot and killed. Lubbock Animal Control is also responded to the scene.
