A construction worker was killed after being struck by an 18-wheeler on I-20 Wednesday morning has been identified as Jesus Vicente Enriquez, 62, of San Angelo.

The accident happened in the eastbound lanes of the interstate near the mile marker 249 exit just east of Sweetwater around 9:30 a.m., according to the Sweetwater Fire Department.

The DPS reported that the 18-wheeler jackknifed and slid into a median where it struck Enrique.

The crash is still under investigation, but Chief Grant Madden says slick roads from construction in the area contributed to the crash, which also sent the driver of the 18-wheeler to the hospital with minor injuries.

Wednesday morning’s incident is the 6th wreck involving an 18-wheeler in the same area, according to Chief Madden.
