One of the biggest shopping weekends of the year is coming up. Thousands are expected to shop right here in Lubbock on Thursday and Friday. Shoppers out on Wednesday said they were shopping to early to avoid the Black Friday shopping crowds.

“It’s a fun for the people who do it, but it’s a little a chaotic for me,” said one shopper. Another shopper said she does anything to avoid the crowds. “I’d rather just be more peaceful shopping instead of crazy and everyone wanting just this one thing,” she said.

But the crowds don’t stop thousands of people from coming out for those Friday and more recently Thursday deals. But many don’t agree with stores opening up on Thanksgiving night.

“Thursday is about family and being together with family,” said one shopper with her grandkids.

“I’d rather be with family on Thursday. There’s other people who like to be with family too. So it takes away from family because they have to go to work those nights,” said another woman.

Stores like Target, Walmart and Best Buy all open on Thanksgiving night, along with many other superstores.

But for stores like academy, the extra revenue isn’t worth missed family time.

“I personally love it because you get to spend time with your family,” said Academy Store Manager, Elliott London. “It’s just nice to relax. It’s supposed to be a family holiday and we like to keep it a family enthronement in our stores so we give customers and team members a break,”

Along with in store deals on Thursday and Friday, many stores offer the same discounts online and past the Black Friday.
