Texas Tech University’s School of Theater & Dance will host the Fall Dance Festival Wednesday through Saturday (Nov. 8-11) in the Creative Movement Studio on the southwest corner of Akron Avenue and Glenna Goodacre Boulevard. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night.
The Fall Dance Festival is a student-produced dance recital featuring original choreography by 12 Texas Tech student choreographers mentored by Texas Tech faculty.
Each of the student choreographers are given the opportunity to utilize their unique voice. Lance Fortune, a senior dance major and choreographer, said he started with a main idea that has transformed as he continues to delve deeper into his choreography process. Cera Taylor, also a senior dance major, said she prefers to go with the flow and create organically in the moment.
“I like to create when I get into the space because it is more organic that way,” Taylor said. “I can use how my dancers are feeling in the moment to help create movement.”
The productions also feature 37 student performers, many of whom are in multiple pieces.
“Each piece is a different style and each one has a different intention behind it,” said Emily Lowke, a student performer. “I like being in four pieces. It keeps me busy.”
Tickets for the Fall Dance Festival are $10 for individuals and $5 for students with a valid student ID. A limited number of free student rush tickets are available for Texas Tech students. To purchase tickets or for more information please call (806) 742-3603 or visit theatre.ttu.edu.
