Joshua Samarripas, 23, was arrested for driving while intoxicated after his car hit a police unit head-on Thursday evening at 82nd Street and Interstate 27.
Police said Samarripas was driving a Hyundai Elantra southbound along the I-27 access road and he tried to turn westbound on 82nd Street.
Police said, “As the driver made the turn, he traveled into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lane and struck a LPD Patrol unit that was stopped at a red light.”
Police said Samarripas was first taken to a hospital to be cleared for any injuries. He was then arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center.
The officer had minor injuries, according to LPD, but was not transported to the hospital.
