On Friday, Chapter 0900 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart in conjunction with other local veteran support groups, will host the “Night of Courage” banquet honoring area veterans, and to pay tribute to Texas Tech alumni and Medal of Honor recipient, George O’ Brien.
Major General James Everette Livingston, as well as six additional Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, will be in attendance at the MCM Elegante Hotel.
Special guests will be local Gold Star Families and Purple Heart recipients, as well as the family of Scott Lilley from Roswell, New Mexico. Lilley was severely injured in Iraq; he and his daughter were the subjects of President George W. Bush’s painting as part of the Portraits of Courage series.
The event is an opportunity for community members to gather, meet with local veterans and reflect on the sacrifices made in their time of service. The banquet will also kick off fundraising efforts for the new memorial to honor area Gold Star families and Purple Heart recipients. The memorial will break ground on November 11, 2018.
The event is open to the community (seating is limited), but donations for ongoing veteran support efforts will be accepted. It begins at 6 p.m. and will go through 8 p.m.
